Monthly term assurance claims during COVID-19 pandemic

Chris Reynolds, Head of Life Pricing at SiriusPoint and Chair of the Continuous Mortality Investigation (CMI) Assurances Committee has written an article discussing the results of an analysis of term assurance claims during the COVID pandemic.

Published by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, as part of Working Paper 176, the work builds on previous analysis of experience by month in 2019 and 2020, and now incorporates 2021 data.

“For the first time we’ve been able to consider the experience of mortality and accelerated critical illness claims from 2019-2021, enabling us to see the differing impacts that the COVID-19 pandemic had on assured lives.  We’ve analysed the number of claims by month and can compare how they’ve been impacted by successive waves of the pandemic.”
